For less than $2/day, Northside AFT union members have access to full-time, local staff dedicated to supporting the school workers in Northside ISD. Real people working to advocate for and to protect you when YOU need it.
Union School board majority

Real wins. Real impact. Real power for educators.
In 2025, Northside AFT helped elect a union-backed majority on the Northside ISD School Board, shifting the balance toward decisions that support educators and staff.
Our union shows up. We attend every School Board meeting and meet regularly with district leadership to advocate for policies that put NISD workers first.
We’ve also partnered with the district to address unchecked charter school expansion and strengthen enrollment in our public schools.
Because of this work, we’ve already delivered results:

A 4% pay increase for all support staff — the highest in Northside history

Pay increases for certified non-classroom educators who were excluded from the state’s TIA
And we’re just getting started.
Together, we organized and submitted over 500 petitions for policy change. As of Spring 2026, that work has already led to:

A clear grievance timeline policy, ensuring concerns are heard and resolved in a timely manner

The right for educators on every campus to speak with their union representatives, no longer left up to principal discretion

Our Legal Liability Insurance coverage is important protection for all Texas educators.

$8 million in occupational liability insurance. As a member, this is your protection against lawsuits relating to the scope of your duties as a school employee.

Includes civil rights violation claims made against you, a $35,000 Legal Action Trust to protect against criminal incidents, and a Legal Defense Fund to protect against employment-related claims.

PLUS-our local staff is accustomed and highly trained to working with HR to represent you in various HR issues. We help our members navigate workplace issues, HR concerns, employment violations, write ups and grievances. When you call us, you call directly to our local union hall and within 24 hours our team will reach out and respond to your needs.
