Dr. Sonia Jasso
District 2
For more than two decades, Doctor Sonia Jasso has worked in the higher education setting. She currently serves as the Director of High School Programs for Palo Alto College, and also is a professor teaching undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral courses at both Our Lady of the Lake University and University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio. Dr. Jasso understands the transformative power of a public education, and is committed to ensuring that every student in Northside ISD has the opportunity to thrive.

Coach
Laura Zapata
District 5
Born and raised in San Antonio, Coach Laura Zapata has worked as a public school educator for 24 years. Currently in her second year as an administrator in San Antonio ISD, Coach Zapata has coached girls’ basketball and softball. She understands the importance of collaboration and teamwork in achieving a shared vision. Coach Zapata is a proud lifelong champion of public education, understanding that it is the foundation for success. She is dedicated to ensuring that every student in Northside ISD has access to a high quality public education.



Dr.Karla Duran
District 3
Dr. Karla Duran was elected in 2023, Dr. Karla Duran serves as the first Latina President of the NISD Board of Trustees. A lifelong bilingual educator and community leader, she has spent more than 25 years advocating for students, families, and working people.

A proud NISD graduate, Dr. Duran champions equity, public education, and closing the digital divide, always guided by the values of her abuelitos. She believes juntos podemos más—together we can achieve more.
David
Salcido
District 1
David Salcido was first elected in 2023 with strong union support. David Salcido proudly serves on the NISD Board of Trustees as a voice for working families. A former NISD employee, parent, and grandparent, he understands firsthand the needs of educators, students, and the community.
A San Antonio native and Harlandale High School graduate, Salcido served in the U.S. Army and later as a Detention Officer with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
Now a retired disabled veteran, he continues his commitment to service by advocating for public education.
